re-tread
Instead of blogging, I have spent my free time over the last month crafting a messenger bag. This is something I've been wanting to do since I took my transcontinental bike ride a few years ago. Inspired by Alchemy Goods and recycling is rad, approximately 90% of the bag is made from re-purposed materials. The waterproof outside is made from stitched together bicycle inner tubes, and the bag is lined with an old wool blanket. There's even a presta valve pull on the zipper pocket. I made sure to include a place to stash some knitting needles, just in case.
The poor sewing machine groaned and squeaked the whole time. Properly tensioning the thread was impossible, and I broke 5 needles (including one on my 1943 Singer). After a marathon build with several very late nights, I'll be taking a rest before my next recycling project.

Dave had this post up on the screen when I opened the computer. Nice work!
Rad!
Did any of my tubes make it in there?
This looks great! I had similar feelings after making my own grocery bag from used plastic bags (that it would be a while before another recycled project). Your bag looks way better than mine. I'm impressed.
Thanks Beth. As I said in the post, I was up way to late finishing it off, but it was well worth being exhausted today.
Ariah, unfortunately I didn't bring any tubes from your house home. If you save them, though, I'm sure I can figure out some things to do with them - maybe something to accompany the bikes you give away.
Ben, Thanks for the compliment, It means a lot coming from you, considering your finished projects are always amazing.
Sorry - that was obviously me and not Ginny.
Amazing, Pneter. well done!
repurposed materials is the way to go. the loft bed i just made my boys was about 90% repurposed wood and bolts. its very satisfying indeed.
What's the patch on the inside?
It's a fist between two wheels. I like to think of it as "power to the peddlers".
